Yamabushi Experience Tour at Kosuge Shrine【Day-trip】※日本語掲載無

For approximately 1,300 years, mountain monks "Yamabushi" have practiced Shugendo, a mystical and ascetic religion, in Kosuge Village, located in Iiyama city, the northern part of Nagano Prefecture. Even today, the villagers continue to carry on ancient rituals at the historic Okusha Shrine, located near the summit of Kosuge Mountain.
Mr. Shida, one of Yamabushi who trained at Dewa Sanzan, has lived in the Kosuge community since 2015, continuing his training on Kosuge Mountain while reviving the culture of Shugendo. By learning directly from local people, he helps others connect with the deep mountain culture.
This travel plan is a day-trip tour where you spend the day with Mr.Shida and an English-speaking guide, listening to local stories and deepening your understanding of the history and culture of Yamabushi. The mountain trail hike typically takes 2–3 hours round-trip, but including explanations and lunch, the entire tour takes approximately 5 hours.
